Mise-en-scene 


The short film uses a minimalist London background, forcing us to focus on the three main characters and their comedic conversation. The three wear different vibrant coloured t-shirts, creating a clear distinction between the characters but it also feels as if they represent different views/emotions. 'Tight Jeans' becomes a comedic visual motif as well as a repetition of the films title.The naturalistic lighting makes the conversation feel real, however the static camera sets up the three characters almost as if they are on stage - a bit like stand up comedy. 

Representation 


In Tight Jeans, representation is crucial in the short films impact. The film has a comedic tone, as the viewers see how conversation within a male friend group can  consist of exaggerated and far-fetched opinions. The characters have deliberate over-the-top reactions of a man wearing 'Tight Jeans', conveying how ridiculous ideas of masculinity/cultures can be spread and reinforced through informal chat. We find ourselves laughing at and with the main characters, whilst also feeling concerned about the distorted beliefs.

  Echo  Sound  Lewis Arnold's short film uses diegetic sound to create a sense of  realism. This is incredibly important for the emotional effect on the spectator, especially with the plot twist, as the story is made to feel believable up until this point. The way the phone calls create emotion and suspense, despite not having another voice on the other side, is really effective, something I am definitely inspired by.   Screenplay first draft    THE PATIENT     ACT 1 - INT. THE THERAPIST'S HOME – MORNING   CLOSE-UP — a kettle switch clicks on. Steam rises.   CLOSE-UP — sink piled high with dishes, pill boxes scattered on kitchen counter.   CLOSE-UP — The Therapist's hands make a cup of tea. The camera follows her  movements precisely — spoon stirring, bag squeezed.    INSIDE FRIDGE SHOT — almost empty shelves. Only a carton of milk.
